6.B. - Page 1 of 28
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
A,&/
DATE: February 11, 2019
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Approve Professional Services Agreement with Woodard & Curran, consulting engineering firm, to
prepare a comprehensive Sanitary Sewer Master Plan
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Professional Services Agreement
with Woodard & Curran in the amount of $294,342, with optional data review and training services
upon direction from the City in the amount of $27,880, for a total amount of $322,222.00 for the
preparation of a comprehensive Sanitary Sewer Master Plan.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Public Safety
BACKGROUND
The City's current Sanitary Sewer Master Plan was completed in 2008; the hydraulic model which
informs the Plan was updated in 2013. The current hydraulic model includes 36 miles of pipelines of 10"
diameter or larger (trunk lines), 8 of the 26 pump stations in Redwood Shores and 2 of the 5 pump
stations in Seaport/Pacific Shores. Trunk lines are important as these larger sewer lines are used to
convey waste from smaller tributaries toward the treatment plants. The current Sanitary Sewer Master
Plan identifies and addresses any capacity issues in the trunk network.
One of the goals of this comprehensive update of the Sanitary Sewer Master Plan is to model and
include all 190 miles of pipeline, including the trunk lines, and all 31 pump stations of the City. Once the
hydraulic model is established, scenarios of current flow demands, as well as future flow demands
during both wet and dry weather, can be evaluated to determine possible system capacity deficiencies.
Other goals of the Comprehensive Sanitary Sewer Master Plans are as follow:
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
23
