6.E. - Page 1 of 18 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: February 25, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Agreement with the Redwood City Police Activities League for Youth Services <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement between the City of <br />Redwood City and the Redwood City Police Activities League for the provision of Youth Services. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Community for All Ages <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Redwood City Police Activities League (PAL) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community organization that was <br />founded in 1995 with the support of the City. PAL's mission is to build partnerships between youth, police <br />and the community through educational, cultural, recreational and outreach programs to help at -risk and <br />under -served youth succeed by providing intervention, prevention, and alternative programs. PAL <br />continues to be housed in its 15,000 square foot facility at 3399 Bay Road in Redwood City. Since 2011 <br />PAL has focused on growing a unique blend of partnerships and collaborations with various other youth - <br />serving organizations including the Peninsula Boys & Girls Club (BGCP), the Sherriff's Activities League <br />(SAL), and the Redwood City Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS). PAL offers <br />several fundamental programs including after school enrichment programs, digital literacy, healthy <br />lifestyle coaching, and sports programs. PAL houses and supports the Tattoo Removal Program which has <br />provided life changing tattoo removal services to both ex -offenders and victims to remove gang and <br />human trafficking related tattoos. PAL also coordinates the annual Redwood City Toy and Book Drive.
