6.G. - Page 2 of 17 <br />triathlon in Redwood City and raise the profile of the Stanford Triathlon and Redwood City within the <br />regional triathlon community. <br />As part of their fundraising activities, the Stanford Triathlon Team proposes hosting Sprint races <br />(collegiate), F1 races (youth/juniors), and a "Saplingathlon" (6-12 year olds). It is anticipated that upwards <br />of 500 runners will participate in the event this year, and registration is capped at 575 entrants. The event <br />is slated to start and finish on the 1600 block of Seaport Boulevard. <br />If approved, on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 12:00 p.m., the "Saplingathlon" begins. There will be four <br />waves of competitors in a variety of run/bike events. The "Saplingathlon" will be contained entirely within <br />the Pacific Shores business complex, and will only require partial closure of the easterly end of Seaport <br />Blvd. that encompasses the business complex. The "Saplingathlon" is expected to be completed by 3:00 <br />p.m. <br />If approved, on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at 7:00 a.m., the triathlon races begin. There will be three waves <br />of triathletes. The races course will involve swims in the Westpoint Marina, runs along the pedestrian path <br />on the south side of Seaport Blvd., east of Chesapeake Dr., and a bicycle course that will utilize one lane, <br />in each direction, of Seaport Blvd., east of Blomquist St. The triathlons are expected to be completed by <br />2:00 p.m. <br />Should alterations be required, any change to the race routes will be determined under the supervision <br />and approval of the Police Chief or his designee. A route map is provided in Attachment 1. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The Stanford University Triathlon Team will pay for the services of Police Department personnel to control <br />traffic between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3rd, 2019. The Stanford University Triathlon <br />Team will provide personnel to conduct the necessary postings of the affected roadways under the <br />supervision of Police Department personnel.
