B. Mezesville Historic District proposal Principal Planner Jany explained the proposal utilizing a PowerPoint presentation (on file). Mayor Pierce opened the public hearing. Public Comment: Stacy Schneider voiced her favor toward the historic district recommendation. Laura Stewart stated that it was an interesting process explaining that the area is so special because it embraces the past beginning in 1894 representing the working class men and women. Nelson Andrade stated that he was amazed with the research and felt it was a very strong community and asset. Kimberly Andrade stated that the area is a very previous neighborhood and that her hope is that it be deemed historical. Peggy Bruggmann stated her wish that the area be deemed historical and that it would compliment the downtown. Gwenythe Scove supported the approval stating that the area is well worth protecting. M/S Foust/Ira to: Designate the area described below as the Mezesville Historic District: • Approve the March 21, 2006 recommendation of the Planning Commission in whole and designate the subject area as an historic district, per the Redwood City Historic Preservation Ordinance. • Adopt the findings in conformance with section 40.6 of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
