7.A. - Page 1 of 12 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: March 11, 2019 <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />SUBJECT <br />Proposed Planning Commission Work Plan for FY 2018-19 and FY 2019-20 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Review, discuss and approve by motion the proposed Planning Commission Work Plan. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City Council has asked each City Board, Commission, and Committee (BCC) to prepare a two-year work <br />plan, beginning with FY 2018-2019, for Council review and approval. The purpose of the work plan is to <br />align BCC work with the City Council's Strategic Initiatives and priorities. Work plans are prepared by the <br />BCC members and presented to the City Council by the BCC Chair and Vice Chair. The Planning Commission <br />discussed the work plan at their January 15, 2019 meeting and adopted it on their February 19, 2019 <br />meeting. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The Planning Commission's purpose is defined by the City Charter with a mission laid out in the <br />Commission's bylaws. Unlike other commissions and committees, the Planning Commission's role is to act <br />upon land use legislation and discretionary projects as outlined in the Zoning Ordinance. Traditionally, the <br />Commission has not served an advocacy role in the community and this is reflected in the suggested work <br />plan goals and projects. <br />As the purpose and mission are already defined, the Commission discussion focused on their goals, <br />projects or priorities.
