City Funding for Fiscal Year 2018-19: $40,000 <br />• Street Life Ministries: Provides dinner and other assistance for the homeless on Mondays and <br />Wednesday Evenings <br />Additional Services and Programs for Consideration <br />As noted above, the City Council has set aside a total of $750,000 to fund additional homelessness or <br />housing services on a one-time basis. This is in addition to the $734,500 in City funding to support the <br />services noted above. With the services that are already provided in mind, the HHIT focused on filling <br />gaps in the above-mentioned homelessness services and programs. Some of the programs recommended <br />below do have an ongoing cost, and therefore staff recommends running them as two-year pilot projects <br />to determine whether funding should be continued on an ongoing basis. Other recommendations have <br />little to no cost associated with them, and are efficiency improvements that were identified during the <br />HHIT's meetings. <br />Recommended Program/Services Requiring Ongoing Funding <br />There were two programs that were rose to the top of the HHIT's recommendation list: The Downtown <br />Streets Team and a Housing Location Assister. Staff recommends that these program be piloted for a two- <br />year term. This will allow the City to test whether the programs are the right fit for the City, and will allow <br />staff to explore grant funding. A description of both programs can be found below. <br />Downtown Streets Team <br />This program would be run by the non-profit organization, "Downtown Streets Team", which is currently <br />operating in a number of Northern California communities, including the City of Palo Alto and City of <br />Sunnyvale. A "Downtown Streets Team" in Redwood City would create a program where local homeless <br />individuals (or those in danger of being homeless) would clean-up and otherwise beautify Downtown <br />Redwood City and potentially other commercial neighborhoods or areas of the City. In exchange for their <br />efforts, these team members receive necessities including a stipend, vital health services and case <br />management. Individuals can gain promotions, and transition to management positions overtime, while <br />giving back to their community, and gaining work skills. The goal is to have these individuals transition to <br />full employment within one year.
