5 as long as a consultant who understands Fed and State requirements is a member of the
Citizen Commission.
5. We have smart citizens
In opposition:
+3 1 -Strongly oppose. I tried drawing district lines. It was difficult, cumbersome and time
consuming. There are many aspects to consider. It needs non-political and non -biased
judgment. It is better to have an outsider's expertise.
+2 2 a Citizen commission, similar to the state process, is too easily bought bywell funded
activist groups with no electoral accountability. Let's not make it easier for big donor
oligarchs to buy their desires outcomes.
+2 1 needs to be fair and independent
+2 1: Seems to me that an 'overlay' of zip codes and voting precincts should give a pretty
good idea. Commissions are well known for gerrymandering. I would rather see a land
surveyor and statistician do the demarcation - with districts being as near square and
balanced mix of socioeconomic groups.
1 1 don't want the districts to be gerrymandered
1. Considering the job that city counsel has done and since it has pretty much ignored
outside opinions from the citizens 2nd stuck to its own agenda, I like this idea.
1. These are the things we elect them to do.
2. Too many moving parts and legal requirements for citizens to do so in a way that protects
the city. I like the way they did it. However, using such a Committee with a demographer and
an attorney on the committee to make. Recommendations to council might be worthwhile.
1 I trust the city Council to do a better.job and have a deeper understanding of the needs of
the city than do a random group of citizens
