6.K. - Page 30 of 190 <br />7.10 Acting Pay <br />7.10.1 The City shall, whenever practical, assign to actinq positions those <br />employees who have demonstrated their ability to perform the <br />duties of the higher classification in accordance with the criteria for <br />selection in the Department Aperatens-Lexipol Policy -Manual. It is <br />understood, that employees selected to perform the duties of a <br />higher classification will be those who have achieved the top step of <br />their regular classification. Acting pay assignments will include on <br />call responsibilities of the higher classifications. Acting Fire Marshal <br />assignments shall be for a minimum of one (_1._) calendar week. <br />7.10.2 Whenever a temporary vacancy occurs and it is determined by the <br />City that the position should be temporarily filled, an employee may <br />be assigned by the Fire Chief to work in the higher paid <br />classification at a rate of pay which is ten percent (10%) above <br />his/her adjusted hourly rate. Deputy Fire Marshals who agree to be <br />assigned to Acting Fire Marshal shall receive the bottom step of the <br />Fire Marshal salary or ten percent (10%) above the adjusted hourly <br />rate, whichever is higher. <br />7.10.3 After a position has been temporarily vacant for fifteen (15) <br />consecutive shifts, the City may make a temporary appointment to <br />fill such vacancy. Temporary appointment may continue for a <br />period of one hundred eighty (180) calendar days and may be <br />extended by the Personnel Officer for an additional period of ninety <br />(90) calendar days. For the purpose of Government Code section <br />20480, an out -of -class appointment shall not exceed a total of nine <br />hundred sixty (960) hours „in a fiscal year. <br />7.10.4 For purposes of this Section (7) a "vacancy" is defined as either an <br />unfilled budgeted position whose incumbent is on paid or unpaid <br />authorized leave, either one of which continues for fifteen (15) or <br />more consecutive shifts. <br />7.11 Special Department Assignment. Vim- <br />Each <br />m <br />Each employee in the classification of Fire Fighter/Engineer or Fire Captain who <br />is assigned by the Fire Chief to a forty .(40) -hour workweek while working on a <br />special department assignment shall continue to receive compensation as <br />outlined in Section 7.8.5.1.
