6.G. - Page 1 of 22
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
A,&/
DATE: April 8, 2019
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Revocable License Agreement with the Redwood City Kiwanis Club for the Location of a Farmers' Market
on Arguello Street at Bradford Street for a Term of Three Years with Two One -Year Extensions; and a
Resolution Authorizing the Temporary Closure of City Streets for the Market.
RECOMMENDATION
1. By motion, authorize the City Manager to execute a Revocable License Agreement with the Kiwanis
Club to operate a farmers' market in the vicinity of Arguello and Bradford Streets for a term of three
years, with two one-year extensions.
2. Adopt a resolution approving temporary street closures in the vicinity of Arguello Street and Bradford
Street for a seasonal Downtown Farmers Market on Saturdays from April through November each
year starting April 2019 through November 2024
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Economic Development
BACKGROUND
In 2011, the City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) from organizations interested in operating a farmers'
market in the Downtown. The RFP was issued because three organizations—the Redwood City Kiwanis
Club, the Rotary Club and the West Coast Farmers' Market Group—expressed interest in operating a
market. All three groups were selected to operate markets but only the Redwood City Kiwanis Club
currently operates a farmers market in the Downtown.'
1 The Rotary decided to cease operation of a market in the Downtown after one year. The West Coast Farmers'
Market operated at the Redwood Shores Public Library until two years ago. Kaiser Hospital has a weekly farmers'
market on premise that doesn't not require City permits.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
140
