6.H. - Page 1 of 13 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: April 8, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Resolution approving the temporary street closure for the 8th annual Sequoia Stampede 5k event <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution designating the event route for the 8th annual Sequoia Stampede 5k event sponsored <br />by the Sequoia High School Booster Club and approving the temporary partial closure of the streets along <br />the route as designated in Exhibit "A". <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />This will be the 8th annual Sequoia Stampede 5k event held in Redwood City. If approved, the event will <br />occur on April 20, 2019. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The Sequoia High School Booster Club is dedicated to assisting all of Sequoia High School's sports teams <br />with funding for uniforms, equipment, and sports awards nights, as well as promoting school spirit and <br />assisting with the safe transportation of athletes to and from as many events as possible. All funds <br />generated from the Sequoia Stampede will go towards supporting that mission, and the event itself is <br />designed to teach students how to engage and embrace the community through the planning of such <br />an event. <br />On Saturday, April 20, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., the 5k run begins and will go through the high school grounds, <br />then south on Elwood Street, west on Katherine Avenue, north on Nevada Street and Outer Circle, west <br />on Brewster Avenue, south on Topaz Street, east on James Avenue, north on Nevada Street, and then <br />east on Katherine Avenue back to the school grounds. <br />The event is expected to be completed no later than 10:30 a.m. <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />162 <br />
