Council Member Ira stated he is disappointed with the lack of inclusion and <br /> information from the Board of Supervisors. Vice Mayor Claire concurred and asked that the <br /> Board by notified in the early morning, prior to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Mayor Ruskin stated that a telephone call to the President of the Board of Supervisors <br /> would be made to convey the Council's concern that the process was done without <br /> involvement or notified officially of the recommended choice. Unless there is an urgent <br /> need that the decision be delayed until information about the discussion, option and <br /> recommendations. <br /> <br /> 9. STAFF REPORTS <br /> <br /> A. Approval of Skate Park Location within Red Morton; (613) <br /> <br /> Parks, Recreation & Community Services Director Centeno gave the background leading <br /> up to the proposal. She stated that the site needs to be easily accessed and centrally located <br /> with youth involved in the design. Other city owned locations were considered and various <br /> areas within Red Morton Park. Due to sight and sound issues the location near the tennis <br /> courts is recommended which is right near the middle of the park near the teen center. <br /> PRCS Director Centeno explained the cons are that 2 or 3 trees will need to be removed <br /> and this would be an additional use in the park. She stated that there are mitigations to aid <br />- - in the neighbors concerns such as usage of berms. The various meeting dates at which <br /> those interested parties were invited to participate were outlined as well. <br /> <br /> Jeri Joseph, Chairperson on Parks and Recreation Commission, stated that the Commission <br /> strongly supports the project and building of the skatepark at Red Morton Park. She <br /> introduced Commissioners, Pina Truscelli, Don Davis and Susan Swope. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Swope reminded Council that in 1998, Redwood City's Youth Survey <br /> reported a great deal of interest in skateboarding. She stated that as a city, there is a <br /> responsibility to serve all the ages in the community and suggested that providing a <br /> positive, safe environment would be preferable.
