Park and Recreation Commission Page 3 Minutes of June 28, 2006 reporting issues their local parks. A letter was sent out to all neighbors living adjacent to our parks inviting them to participate as a “Park Pal”. Twenty positive responses have been received and staff is working to develop the most efficient way of communicating with these neighbors. ITEM 2 – PRESENTATION ON OPEN SPACE ELEMENT OF GENERAL PLAN AND RECOMMENDATION TO PLANNING COMMISSION (CONTINUED) The Commissioners reviewed the written comments from Commissioner Swope and Director Centeno on the Open Space Element. They agreed with the comments and also made additional comments. Director Centeno will take all the comments and combine them into one document for the Planning Department. The Commissioners also discussed the need for a separate element to include Parks, Recreation and Community Services. M/S Swope/Joseph: To recommend to the Planning Commission to include a Park and Recreation Element as an optional element for the General Plan. Motion passed unanimously. Chairperson Slusser and Commissioner Swope agreed to review the memo to be prepared by Director Centeno for the Planning Department. A sub- committee of Commissioner Swope, Joseph and Wright was formed to write a new Park and Recreation Element for the General Plan. ANNOUNCEMENTS -Commissioner Swope noted there will be a public meeting at 7:00pm on July 11 at City Hall to discuss the proposed Peninsula Park Project. -Director Centeno reminded the Commissioners they have been invited to attend a ceremonial oath taking program by the City Council at their July 10 meeting. She also handed out a flyer for the Stafford and Downtown Summer Concert series. ITEMS FOR NEXT MONTH’S AGENDA The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at 9:22pm to be reconvened at 7:30pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California.
