<br /> Award of Contract - 2001-2002 Bike Path Improvement Project
<br /> Recommendation
<br /> Approve the award of contract for the 2001-2002 Bike Path Improvement Project to the
<br /> lowest responsible bidder, Granite Rock Company dba Pavex Construction Division, of
<br /> Redwood City, California, for their bid of $321,753.00, (including the Add Alternate),
<br /> and reject all other bids.
<br /> Background
<br /> Several of the existing Bike Paths at Redwood Shores are in poor condition due to their
<br /> age, and many have suffered settlement and erosion problems. The project resulted
<br /> from a grant received from an application the City submitted to the C/CAG by a
<br /> Transportation Enhancement Activities (TEA) grant.
<br /> The paths to be reconstructed include the presently existing dirt paths along portions of
<br /> Redwood Shores Parkway and Bridge Parkway. The Bike Paths covered in this Project
<br /> will be upgraded to the Standard Class "1", two-way Bike Path. The project follows a
<br /> long review process with the various homeowner associations and concerned bicyclists
<br /> in the Redwood Shores area. The upgrading of these paths will be a benefit to
<br /> bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists.
<br /> On July 15, 2002, the City Council approved the advertisement for bids for 2001-2002
<br /> Bike Path Improvement Project. Six bids were received, and are summarized below
<br /> showing the total of base bid and Add Alternate:
