The lowest responsible bid received from Granite Rock Company, in the amount of
$321,753.00 is 7.5% above the Engineer's Estimate of $299,313.00 and is considered
a good and responsive bid.

A copy of the Agreement is available for review in the City Clerk's office.

Alternatives
There are two alternatives to award this contract:

1. Award just the Base Bid, which does not include the Add Alternate of the jogging
path.

2. Award the Base Bid with the jogging path.

The cost of the path adds another $65,265.00 to the project cost, for a total of
$321,753.00. The Engineer's estimated cost for this jogging path was $81,850.00.
Therefore, staff is recommending the second alternative, which is to include the jogging
path.

Fiscal Impacts
There is sufficient money in the project to fund both the Base Bid and the Add
Alternate. The City has received Transportation Enhancement Act (TEA) Funds in the
amount of $195,000.00. The remainder of the Funds in the amount of $126,753.00 are
available in the 2000-2001 Capital Improvement Program budget for this project, out of
the GID 1-64 Facilities Fee Fund already collected.

,:ion K.'l'¥~clCrc~I~Y~ce Liedstrand -- Ed Everett
City Engineer Community Development Services Director City Manager

JKL/PW:ss
S/library/reports/lynch/AWARD_2001-2002 Bike Path
