Research Project on Student Study Teams (SSTs) 3. The products of this work will
include supports that improve behavior, attendance, and academic outcomes.
The RCSD SST Improvement Task Force" partnered with the John Gardner Center to
do a big scale research project to understand (diagnose) the processes and resources
our different sites use within the SST process and how we allocate services and
measure impact at individual, site, and district level. The work focused on identifying &
addressing the gaps and implementing standardized processes on specific areas of
improvement: the efficacy and efficiency of the referral process, communication
between stakeholders, and follow-up to understand the effectiveness of the various
interventions.
Based on the findings the district leadership has started a broad conversation on the
need to both make changes in the SST process as well as deepen our Multi -Tiered
System of Supports framework and integrate academic, behavior and social -emotional
supports.
3. Stronger alignment for stronger impact.
During the 18-19 school year, the Community Schools department, alongside district
leadership and site leadership, will develop and implement new measurement tools to
evaluate the success of the Community Schools model as well as measurement tools to
understand program fit and program success of individual partners. It is imperative for
cross -sector work to have clear expectations and measurement tools that are
universally accessible.
Community Schools coordinators and their partners will also participate in new staff
development that includes:
a) Build capacity for staff, families, and partners to better serve youth and their
families at Community Schools and within the broader Pipeline of Success
• Community Schools -specific data system
• Support for building/enhancing district -level program alignment
• Professional development for each Community Schools staff member: in-person
sessions, monthly supervision sessions, and annual 360-feedback/evaluations
• Access to other Community School professionals nationwide
b) Provide impactful services for every child and family
• Needs assessments for every school
• Creation of school -specific School Support Plans (outlining all goals and planned
supports for the school year)
• Supports are tied directly to the needs identified in the needs assessment, have
clear objectives, and measureable outcomes and processes for evaluating
effectiveness
3 https://gardnercenter.stanford.edu/
4 District members: Assessment and Student Services, Special Education Department, and Community
Schools.
REV: 10-01-18 RL
ATTY/AGR.2018.239/Redwood City School District
