This intersection is currently two-way stop controlled on Stambaugh Street, and
uncontrolled on Maple Street.
Resident concerns are related to vehicle crashes and the difficulty of pedestrians crossing Maple Street at
Stambaugh Street during peak hours. After receiving these concerns, staff evaluated the intersection
conditions for all -way stop control according to local and state standards.
ANALYSIS
Staff examined police crash records for the intersection and found that there have been six reported
crashes at or near this intersection in the 12 -month period between February 2016 and February 2017.
Five of these crashes have been deemed to be correctable by installation of an all -way stop. This satisfies
Section 26.07(6) of the California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, which provides guidance to
municipalities for multi -ways stop sign applications where five or more reported crashes in the same
location over a 12 -month period are susceptible to correction by a multi -way stop installation.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
100
