Landscape Architects, Inc. (SSA) for
construction support and sub -consultant management services for the Magical Bridge Playground Project
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute Amendment No. 3 to the agreement with
SSA for additional time and scope for playground and landscape architectural design services for the
Magical Bridge Playground in the amount of $235,524.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Community for All Ages
BACKGROUND
For the past two fiscal years, the City Council has appropriated nearly $3M towards the complete
renovation of the large playground within Red Morton Park through a combination of Capital
Improvement Project (CIP) Funds and Park Impact Fees. The budget funded hiring of the landscape
consultant firm, traffic study, master planning, design, construction drawings for bidding, and playground
improvements.
On April 11, 2016, the City Council approved a professional services agreement with SSA for the
"Red Morton Westside Park Renovation Project." The project primarily focused on improvements
to the main pedestrian entrance into the park from Valota Road, street crossings surrounding the
park to improve pedestrian safety, pathway improvement, improved sport field viewing, and the
reconstruction of the large playground nearValota Road.
When the opportunity to work with the Magical Bridge Foundation presented itself, City staff envisioned
a new direction to leverage partnerships, sponsors, funders, stakeholders, and the community at
large to create a fully inclusive playground for everyone regardless of ability.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
24
