In 2012, the City contracted with BKF Engineers to
investigate deficiencies of Redwood Creek and tributaries. In 2015, the City obtained permits from the
following regulating agencies to work within Redwood Creek and its branches: the US Army Corps of
Engineers (USACE), California Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), and California Department
of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). The permits allow for repair, rehabilitation or replacement within the
concrete channel and concrete box culvert portions of the creek only.
Following approval from the permitting agencies, on December 16, 2016, the City Council awarded a
contract to Wood Rodgers, Inc. to prepare the plans, specifications and cost estimates for the 2017-2018
Redwood Creek Improvements Project. Wood Rodgers designed the Jefferson Branch, which is between
Clinton Street and EI Camino Real and the Redwood Branch, which is between Hudson Street and
Cleveland Street. These creek sections were selected for the first phase of improvements. Based on
funding and need, the creek portion on the Jefferson Branch was advertised for bidding.
On April 4, 2018, one bid was received forthe 2017-2018 Redwood Creek Improvements Project (Jefferson
Branch) from Disney Construction, Inc. The total base bid was $2,564,307.00 to replace approximately
477 lineal feet of existing concrete wall and approximately 239 lineal feet of concrete base slab. This bid
was significantly over the budget available.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
50
