EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br /> <br />Eauioment Mechanic I and II <br /> <br />Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on City automobiles, trucks and a variety of <br />diesel and gasoline powered maintenance and construction equipment. <br /> <br />Determine extent of necessary repairs and makes recommendations to Equipment Operations <br />Leader for service or repairs required. <br /> <br />Performs routine service on fleet vehicles to include preventive maintenance service, diagnosing <br />minor and complex driveablility problems and fuel injection systems. <br /> <br />Repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, clutch and brake systems, alternator and <br />starter systems, pumps, steering systems, front-end alignments, suspension repairs and other <br />major vehicle components. <br /> <br />Performs engine tune-ups, which includes diagnosis, changing spark plugs and repair or <br />replacement of electronic ignition system components and computer systems. <br /> <br />Diagnose, repair and/or replace electrical system components. <br /> <br />Diagnose, repair and/or replace hydraulic system components. <br /> <br />Diagnose hydraulic and air brake problems, repair and/or replace components as needed. <br />Perform smog testing according to State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair guidelines. <br />Repairs exhaust systems, and inspect and service air pollution control devices. <br /> <br />Installs, repairs, removes or replaces special vehicle components, such as gun locks, roll bars, <br />cages, emergency vehicle light bars, sirens, trailer hitches, electric brake controllers and related <br />equipment. <br /> <br />Performs routine computer data entry on daily work performed, and uses computer to retrieve <br />records regarding previous repairs. <br /> <br />Maintain shop cleanliness. <br /> <br />Clean vehicles and equipment. <br /> <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br /> <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />EouiDment Mechanic I <br /> <br /> Knowledge of: <br /> <br /> Tools, equipment and procedures used in the overhaul, repair and adjustment of gas and <br /> diesel-powered equipment. <br /> <br /> Operation and care of internal combustion engines. <br /> <br /> Safe work practices. <br /> <br /> 06/10/99 <br /> 13661 <br /> <br /> <br />
