8A
The selection of two pilot study areas, one voluntary and the other involuntary is to assess Page 2
the willingness of residents to move their vehicles, when involved differently. However,
operationally, both areas will be treated similar, i.e., early notification, posted signs, and
parking enforcement with ticketing for failure to move parked vehicles on the designated
day.
. The current street cleaning operator will continue the
regular program. An additional operator would serve the pilot project for 3 months using
the City's second (back up) sweeper.
Currently, the City provides residential street cfeaning service once each month in 16
designated neighborhood street cleaning districts. The service is performed by one
equipment operator in the Storm Drains Maintenance& Street Cleaning Section. ln 2001,
the street cleaning district boundaries were reconfigured to conform to existing
neighborhood associat'son boundaries. Larger neighborhoods, such as Roosevelt, Pa1m
Park and Woodside Plaza are divided to create two separate street cleaning districts. The
current district configuration provides that each stree# cleaning district can reasonably be
completed within the scheduled 6 hours per day devoted to the neighborhood cleaning.
The operator departs the MSC at Wpre c eaned betwee gt ehours of 4 00 a ma d
Commercia! streets and the downto
7:00 a.m. in order to avoid conflntswt hbo hood distr c'ts s 10 hou s4 daysl perrweek,
including commercal distrcts a g
Tuesday through Friday.
The council may want to designate a 2 person subcommittee to work with staff on specific
implementation issues.
