Bortolotto 8� Co., lnc. of San <br /> Carlos, Caii#omia for their low bid of$887,605.39. <br /> Background <br /> The 2QQ5-2006 Street Overiay Project is a continuation of the on-going pavement <br /> imp�ovement projects perFormed under the City's Roadway Management System <br /> (RMS) Program. The purpose of this project is to repair and resurFace the roadway <br /> segments listed Ue{ow, with a new asphalt pavement ove�iay: <br /> 1. Whippie Avenue - EI Camino Real to Veterans Bou(evard <br /> 2. Indus#ria! Way—Whipple Avenue to north City Iimit <br /> 3. Alameda de las Pulgas— De Anza Avenue to Eaton Avenue <br /> As part of this work, the existing traffic lane striping will be replaced on these roadways. <br /> The City's Bicycle ar�d Pedestnan Committee has requested #hat the City consider <br /> changing the lane configuration an Industria! Way to incorporate new bike lanes. City <br /> staff is working with the Committee to organize a community meeting with the adjacent <br /> Centennial neighborhood, to present and discuss possible alternatives for incorporating <br /> bike lanes on this segment of Industriai Way. This community meeting is tentativeiy <br /> scheduled on the evening of September 13 at Redwood High School on Old County <br /> Raad. If there is agreement and support from the communifiy far a new lane <br /> configuration with bike lanes, staff will recommend approval of a revised striping plan by <br /> City Councii in early October, which wi11 be impiemented through a minor change arder <br /> to this contract. lf the community does not demonstrate consensus support for a new <br /> lane configuration on Industrial Way at this time, this contract work will proceed to <br /> reins#all the existing sfriping plan per the Contract Documents. However, this would not <br /> preclude further community dialogue with the Bicycfe and Pedestrian Committee toward <br /> b�ilding a consensu5 for a new tane canfiguration with bike lanes, which could be <br /> implemented at some future date. <br /> This project will be partially funded by Federal Transportation funding under the Surface <br /> Transportation Program {STP). The STP encourages agencies to consider adding bike <br /> lanes wherever feasibls on streets that receive funding suppo�t. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
