<br />6.10 <br />Page 18 <br /> <br />total compensation median of the established labor market as described above, <br />and all current employees in the classification of Fire Captain will receive an <br />increase to their base salary equal to the percentage increase received by Fire <br />Fighter/Engineers. <br /> <br />Effective the first of the pay period closest to January 1, 2009 (1/5/09), all <br />current employees in the classification of Fire Fighter/Engineer will receive an <br />increase to their base salary which brings their total compensation equal to the <br />total compensation median of the established labor market as described above, <br />and all current employees in the classification of Fire Captain will receive an <br />increase to their base salary equal to the percentage increase received by Fire <br />Fighter/Engineers. <br /> <br />7.2.1 Initial Appointments <br /> <br />Initial appointments to Fire Fighter/Engineer or Fire Captain <br />classifications shall normally be made at the lowest step or rate of <br />pay. Upon approval of the Fire Chief and City Manager, such <br />appointments may be made at any other step when justification <br />upon consideration of the difficulty locating qualified personnel, <br />education, experience, certifications, personal fitness and other <br />criteria as may be reasonably related to the position. <br /> <br />7.2.2 Salary Increase on Promotion to Fire Captain <br /> <br />A Fire Fighter/Engineer who is receiving paramedic pay is eligible <br />for a promotional adjustment that ensures at least a 5% increase <br />above the highest classification they are to supervise, even if that <br />places him/her between salary steps. <br /> <br />7.2.3 Merit Increases <br /> <br />A probationary Fire Fighter/Engineer or Fire Captain may be eligible <br />for a salary increase to the next higher step above the initial step or <br />rate to which appointment was made after a six (6) month period. <br />With continued satisfactory performance, an employee in the <br />classification of Rre Fighter/Engineer or Fire Captain may be eligible <br />for a salary increase at twelve~month intervals between steps to the <br />maximum top step upon consideration of such employee's <br />performance of duties, experience, education, personal fitness for <br />the position, and other criteria reasonably related to awarding <br />increased compensation on the basis of merit. Adjustments shall <br />be made at the recommendation of the Fire Chief and approved by <br />the City Manager. <br /> <br />The status quo shall be maintained regarding the payment of FLSA overtime. The City <br />shall also maintain the status quo on the payment of regular overtime as prescribed in <br />Section 7.6 of the current MOU. <br /> <br />., 1 <br />
