From and after the effective date hereof, any employee of the Fire Department in the classification of fire fighter, fire inspector and fire captain, who is assigned the duties of a job classification with a higher salary range than that to which he is regularly assigned, on a temporary basis but for a period of more than 30 days, or ten shifts (for such personnel on a 24-hour shift schedtlle), within a twelve-month period, shall receive additional compensation in an amount equal to 5% of his basic salary for any additional period ex- ceeding such 30 days, or ten shifts, as the case may be. SECTION ?-2. Employees appointed to positions in the following classificat,ions shall receive compensation computed by the hour, or othen~ise, as hereinbelow designated, within the ranges as established by this section: (a) Engineering construction Range $4.57 - 4.83 - 5.11 - Inspector 5.40 - 5. 71 per hr.
