<br />DES:yc:lO/20/69 <br /> <br />o R DIN A N C E <br />--------- <br /> <br />N O. \4-~? <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ADDING ARTICLE VI TO CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE <br />OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY (COMMENCING WITH ~2.53) <br />PROVIDING FOR DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY COMING <br />INTO POSSESSION OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. A new Article VI of Chapter 2 of the Code of <br />the City of Redwood City (commencing with ~2.53) is hereby added <br /> <br />to said Code to read as follows: <br /> <br />"ARTICLE VI. Unclaimed Property. <br /> <br />"Section 2.53 <br /> <br />Unclaimed property found, recovered, <br /> <br />or held by, delivered to, or otherwise coming into the <br /> <br />possession of an officer, employee, or agent of the City <br /> <br />of Redwood City shall be delivered to the Police Department. <br /> <br />"Section 2.54 <br /> <br />All such property, the disposition of <br /> <br />which is governed by Federal law, or the Vehicle or Penal <br /> <br />Codes of the State of California shall be disposed of according <br />to such law or Codes. All such property which the Chief of <br /> <br />Police determines to be dangerous or perishable may be disposed <br /> <br />of immediately, without notice, in such manner as he determines <br /> <br />to be in the public interest. <br /> <br />Except as provided in Section 2.54, <br /> <br />"Section 2.55 <br /> <br />unclaimed property in the possession of the Police Department <br /> <br />shall be disposed of as follows: <br /> <br />"(a) Said property shall be released to the owner thereof <br />upon proof of ownership and if said owner makes <br />claim therefor within a period of four consecutive <br />months commencing on the date of possession by the <br />Police Department, or a period of three consecutive <br />months in the case of unclaimed bicycles. Said <br />owner shall be required to pay a reasonable charge <br />to defray costs of storage and care of the property <br />as a condition to the release thereof. <br /> <br />"(b) If said property is not claiIred in accordance with <br />the provisions of subsection (a) hereof, it shall <br />be disposed of as follows: <br /> <br />"(1) Said property may, by resolution of the Council, <br />be found to be needed for a public use, and <br />upon adoption of such resolution said property <br />shall be retained by the city for such public <br />use; or <br /> <br />T <br />
