D. Council Member Howard — announced that Sunday, October 15 would be a <br />party to celebrate the accomplishments in the downtown. She suggested arriving <br />at 11:00 a.m. for the honoring of Jean Cloud, a longtime supporter of restoration <br />efforts and historical preservation in Redwood City who is celebrating her 100 <br />birthday. She asked that the community join the Pride & Beautification Committee <br />on Saturday, October 14 at 8:30 a.m. at the Publics Works Maintenance Center <br />on Broadway. The effort will focus on joining the downtown merchants to clean, <br />sweep and paint. She spoke of the demonstration ferry ride on Saturday, October <br />7 to the Port of San Francisco and stated that Berkeley and South San Francisco <br />is moving forward in their ferry service efforts. She explained infrastructure bond <br />Proposition 1 B that would provide monies for emergency preparedness, disaster <br />planning and emergency response of which Redwood City is part of the network <br />with Water Transit. <br />E. Vice Mayor Foust — thanked City Manager Everett for having appointed CDS <br />Director Ingram who is a wonderful asset. She announced the "Save the Music" <br />annual fundraiser for the Belmont/Redwood Shores Education Foundation that is <br />also scheduled for October 15 urging Council Members to shuttle between the <br />downtown festivities and the music and kayak races at Twin Dolphin Drive from <br />11 -5. She thanked Council Member Bain for attending the CERT training and <br />reaching out to the neighborhood associations. She also presented Mayor Pierce <br />with a Certificate of Completion plaque and pin for completing the requirements of <br />the Advanced Leadership Academy for the League of California Cities. <br />F. Council Member Ira — announced that the 17 Annual Trivia Bee would be held <br />on October 13 at Canada College beginning at 6:30 p.m. <br />G. Mayor Pierce — stated that October 7 had multiple events with the model ferry <br />demonstration, 100 volunteers with parents at schools cleaning up and planting <br />gardens, Council Members attended the San Mateo County History Museum <br />Columbus Day celebration and fundraiser and participated in the celebrity bocce <br />ball tournament. The last public outreach workshop for the Peninsula Park project <br />proposal is October 11 at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center and a Planning <br />Commission study session is scheduled for October 17 in the Council Chambers. <br />H. City Manager Everett — announced that the Community Builders series begins in <br />November and sign -ups can be taken over the telephone or e-mail.
