6.1C
Page 2

minimize construction impact to the community. This project is currently anticipated for
FY 2008-2009.

This design contract covers Marlin and Sandpiper sport fields, which are sand-based,
and located in Redwood Shores. The sand-based construction is technically different
than what we have at the Red Morton facilities, and some of the drainage of the sand-
based field may be serviceable for the synthetic turf. The design professional will
investigate this possibility during design.

The consultant services will include the planning, initial study, design development, and
assisting in the public outreach for the community. The Consultant will then prepare
the Contract Documents for the bid package.

Beals Alliance is a highly qualified professional consultant for this task, because over
the past five years, the City retained Beals Alliance for the design of five other sport
field conversions in and around the City (Hoover, Taft, Garfield, Fair Oaks Schools and
Red Morton fields). Beals Alliance will provide staff with technical expertise needed for
this project, since they have designed many such fields in the Bay Area and are
considered one of the leading consultants in the design of this type of facility.

Alternative
Staff could send out Requests for Proposals to ensure that there no better qualified
consultants who might be interested in consulting with the City.

Fiscal Impact
Funding for the design portion of this project is available in the Fiscal Year 2006/07
Water Enterprise Fund and the Capital Project Funds of the Capital Improvement
Program (CIP).

Peter Ingram
Community Development Director

~/

~
' 'TV . .

Chu Chang, P.E. t-
Manager, Engineering & Construction

/ ' /
/ " /1 ;/~;. __-,., "
J "ji ./ U-"
( v'., ",' !
\ A 11/(L vJ
i /':;..- l .r v t
Ed Everett
City Manager

SPV:ss
s/library/reportsIConsultanL Beals _ AUianceL Marlin-Sandpiper

T'
