(405) MINUTE ORDER 06 -214 <br />RD MINUTE ORDER 06 -11 <br />7. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub - section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin Nos. 39 -2006, 40 -2006, 41 -2006, 42 -2006, and 43 -2006. <br />Council may direct staff to act on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of <br />California Cities Priority Focus available in City Clerk's Department). <br />B. City Council Member Report of Conference /Meeting Attendance <br />Council Member Bain stated that he attended the Council of Cities meeting in <br />Hillsborough and that former Congressman Tom Campbell was the speaker. He <br />stated that it was a very good meeting with information on how well- managed our <br />cities are as a credit to our staff, and in terms of balancing the budget every year <br />and comparing and contrasting that with how the State handles its budget <br />processes. (209) <br />C. Colima, Sister City, visit oral report <br />Council Member Ira stated his excitement about the possibilities and relationships <br />they were able to build there on their recent trip. He stated that Council Member <br />Aguirre's spouse, Pete, took a lot of video and that they plan to come back and <br />present it at a future Council meeting. He stated that he would like to see all the <br />kids in Redwood City be able to travel because that is how people realize how <br />fortunate we all are here. <br />Council Member Aguirre stated that Redwood City International will have a <br />meeting at 1 p.m. this Friday to work on compiling the information from the trip. <br />She stated that eighteen people from all aspects of Redwood City went, and that <br />they had a roundtable of ideas that they would like to share once the video is put <br />together. <br />Mayor Pierce stated that the Sister City exchange was put together by Dwight <br />Eisenhower, all attendees went at their own expense, and they bring back their <br />experience and opportunities for exchange with other cities. She stated that we <br />have two sister cities: one in Colima and one in Zhuhai, China.
