<br />. <br /> <br />......-_"__.._..'n. <br /> <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT <br /> <br />OEF IN IrION <br /> <br />To perform a wide variety of complex and difficult technical library work <br />including the processing of Library material orders, purchasing and inputting <br />of catalog information into automated system; to direct the staff and activi- <br />ties of the circulation pUblic service desk or periOdicals function; to <br />maintain storage access and retrieval of the periOdical collection; and to <br />process interlibrary loan requests. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHAAACTERISTICS <br /> <br />This is the advanced journey level class in the Library Assistant series. <br />Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series <br />by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. <br />Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned <br />to classes with in th is series including prov iding tect1nica 1 and functional <br />supervision to lower level library positions. Employees at this level are <br />required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of <br />responsibility and to possess knowledge and expertise in a specialized techni- <br />cal area. <br /> <br />SUPER VIS ION RECE IVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />Receives general supervision from higher level library personnel. <br /> <br />Exercises functional and technical Supervision over technical library staff <br />and direct supervision over clerical and non-technical staff. <br /> <br />EXN4PLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the fOllowing: <br /> <br />Prioritize, assign, and review the work of staff involved in work of assigned <br />area; assist in selecting and superviSing assigned staff. <br /> <br />Search, edit and input data into the RLIN system; review accuracy of input <br />data; research and resolve discrepancies. <br /> <br />Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish <br />schedules and methods for assigned area; implement policies and procedures. <br /> <br />Perform the more complex and difficult work in directing circulation desk <br />activities; monitor and direct day-to-day circulation desk activities. <br /> <br />r~aintain various statistics, files, and procedure manuals; prepare routine <br />sunmary reports. <br /> <br />Develop procedures and forms; prepare special reports and surveys as directed. <br /> <br />Respond to general assistance inquiries for library materials, services, <br />information, and complaints. <br /> <br />59 <br />
