9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub - section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin No. 44 -2006 and 45 -2006. Council may direct staff to act <br />on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority <br />Focus available in City Clerk's Department). <br />B. Appointment to City Council- appointed Senior Affairs Commission (one vacant <br />four -year term, expiring May 31, 2008). Applicant: Jean Harrison <br />Recommendation: <br />M/S Ira /Hartnett to reappoint Jean Harrison to an unexpired term on the Senior <br />Affairs Commission ending May 31, 2008. The motion passed by a unanimous <br />voice vote by those present with Council Member Bain absent. (209) <br />MINUTE ORDER 06 -233 <br />C. Council Member Howard — thanked Mayor Pierce for the two page report on <br />global warming. She stated her hope to find ways to develop policies within our <br />city for the future. <br />D. Vice Mayor Foust — agreed with Council Member Howard. She also announced <br />that there is $50,000.00 available to Redwood Shores residents willing to donate <br />to the opening day collection of books for the Redwood Shores library. This <br />program ends on December 31 and matches the donation of $100.00 up with a <br />match up to $1,000.00. <br />E. Mayor Pierce — thanked the Downtown Business Group and Council for the <br />Hometown Holidays event the past weekend with wonderful fireworks and tree <br />lighting. <br />10.
