IO.A
Mr. Rolandelli added that there are no guaranties to preserve historic properties,
however property owners of Histodc properties have to follow a process
regulated by the Historic Preservation Ordinance.

The Public Hearing was opened

John Anagnostou, said that there is an honor and an incredible real estate value
generally associated with the word 'historic". He said that people often don't
understand what it is to own a histodc property. He said that owning a Historic
property and using the State Historic Building Code is very valuable. The word
historic can be used as a marketing tool to the Fox Theater, the Foresters Hall
and the Alhambra and they are all historic properties. He supports the Historic
District and thanked Mr. Jany and Mr. Rolandelli for all the efforts that they have
put in into this project.

Commissioner Piulle asked Mr. Rolandelli what kind of signage do they have in
mind for this type of district, where it is, and how it will be designated.

Mr, Jany said that an official State Historic directional sign/marker could be
installed off the 101 freeway.

Susan Moeller, Downtown Development Manager said that she will be attending
the California Main Street Conference in Walnut Creek. She said that one of the
criteria for such a district has to do with the Downtown Business Group and what
they have done in terms of activity and promotion on marketing.

Mr. Rolandelli added that several historic buildings could get local historic
signage right now.

Commissioner Piulle asked about the Historic booklet and how was the Historic
district advertized.

Mr. Rolandelli said that there are a couple of things that they have done over the
years. They have done Historic Tours and the Historic Resources Advisory
Committee have done some advertising and also celebrated National
Preservation year, which is on the second week of May, and some walking tours
in order to try to get the word out that way. He said that they will continue to get
the youths in the community involved during National Preservation Week.

Commissioner Piulie. suggested inserting advertising on the water bills.

M/S: Garcia/Seybert: Closed the pubic hearing

M/S: Paulson/Piulle: Recommend approval to the City Council

Motion Passed
