Attachment 3 -
~UG ~ 9 ZOOZ

346 Hillview Avenue
Redwood City, CA 94062
650-365-4477 suemarek @ earthlink.net

August 29, 2002

City of Redwood City
Planning and Redevelopment Services
City Hall
1017 Middlefield Road
Redwood City, CA 94063

Subject: Appeal against the Issuance of Architectural Permit
File No.: AP2002-21
Property Address: 366 Hillview Avenue
Assessor's Parcel Number: 058-128-070

To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing to file an appeal against the issuance of an architectural permit for a
second story addition at 366 Hillview, the home of Michael and Alicia Viviard. I
am submitting the $100.00 fee. My reasons and concerns are stated below:

· When I purchased my home a year ago, I bought a one-story house on a
block where all other houses were one-story. This was a considerable part of the
neighborhood's attractiveness. Our block of Hillview Avenue is particularly
charming in that it is tree-lined and all the homes have a cottage-like appearance
and dimension.

· On my side of the block, all the house have deep back yards, and all of the
houses are aligned so that one does not extend further back than another. Given
that all homes are one-stdry, the result is that all yards have an unusually open
view of surrounding hills and trees, with a great deal of privacy. This was a key
factor in the attractiveness and value of the home I purchased and I do not want
to see that value degraded. Nor do ! want to lose the privacy that increases my
enjoyment of my pool and back yard.

· The current plans that the Viviards have is for a two-story addition that
extends well beyond the footprint of their current structure. My privacy and
feeling of separation would be severely reduced.

· I found the plans for the addition to be very awkward and I think that the
new structure would detract from the neighborhood, both from the street-side
appearance, and equally important, from the backyard aspect.
