I

Council
~manager

October 28, 2002

Subject
Resolution amending the salary and wage plan for certain classifications in Executive
Management.

Recommendation
That the City Council, by resolution, amend the salary and wage plan for certain
classifications in Executive Management.

Background
In April 2000, the Personnel Committee approved a new compensation program for
Department Heads in the Executive Management Group. The new compensation program
requires that the salary range for each Department Head classification is established by
using the salaries of the lowest and highest of comparable cities. The salary rar~ge for
Division Managers in the Executive Management Group will be established by using the
median of the market. The market survey has been completed and the new salary ranges
effective July 1, 2002 are attached.

Alternative
The alternative would be to retain current salary ranges.

Fiscal Impact
Criteria for setting Executive Management salary increases for Department Heads are
determined by the City Manager annually. There is no guaranteed increase and therefore,
salary adjustments are not known at this time but in no event will they exceed the stated
top range. In regards to the Division Managers, there are only two classifications that will
receive adjustments based on market median. One will receive a 3.85% adjustment and
the other a .94%. All other ranges remain unchanged.

Maria Rivera-Pe~a Ed Everett
Human Resources Director City Manager

Attachment
Salary and Wage Plan for certain Executive Management Classifications
Resolution
