Kempton discussed the <br />process of the Infrastructure Bond implementation, <br />and transportation funding in the 2007 state bud- <br />get. <br /> <br />The TCPW Policy Committee will next meet in <br />Ontario, at the Ontario Convention Center, on <br />Friday, March 30. <br /> <br />Housing, Community & Economic <br />Development <br /> <br />The League's Housing, Community & Eco- <br />nomic Development (HCED) Policy Committee <br />met on Friday, January 12, at the Sacramento <br />Convention Center. Highlights included the com- <br />mittee reviewing its goals and adopting a 2007 <br />Work Program. <br /> <br />Speakers at the meting featured Lynn Jacobs, <br />director, State Department of Housing and Com- <br />munity Development (HCD) and Tom Adams, <br />president, California League of Conservation <br />Voters. Jacobs' remarks to the committee cen- <br />tered on her view of HCD and the department's <br />relationship with local government. In addition, she <br />discussed Prop. 1 C, the housing bond passed by <br />voters last November, and HCD's plans to distrib- <br />ute the funds quickly and efficiently. <br /> <br />Jacobs also received an award at the meeting. <br />The HCD director was recognized by the commit- <br />tee with a Local Government Outreach Award for <br />her efforts to be accessible to local agency offi- <br />cials throughout the state. <br /> <br />Following Jacobs was Tom Adams. Adams spoke <br />to the committee about his experience chairing the <br />"No on 90" campaign last year, and the continuing <br />need for eminent domain reform in California. <br /> <br />The HeED Policy Committee will next meet in <br />Ontario, at the Ontario Convention Center, on <br />Friday, March 30. <br /> <br />Community Services <br /> <br />The League's Community Services Policy <br />Committee met on Thursday, January 11, at the <br />League's office in Sacramento. Connie Busse, <br />executive director for the City County School <br />(CCS) Partnership and Steve Sanders, from the <br />Institute for Local Government (ILG), visited the <br />committee to discuss what their organizations are <br />doing with respect to healthy lifestlyes. <br /> <br />The committee also discussed how it plans to <br />implement the 2006 Annual Conference Resolu- <br />tion it helped to pass last year that dealt with <br />healthy cities. During the meeting, a subcommit- <br />tee was formed to work on a survey that will be <br />distributed to aU cities to gather information on <br />what cities are doing today. The survey will be <br />distributed in February. <br /> <br />In addition, the committee had a productive <br />discussion on the implementation of the park <br />bonds, specifically Prop. 84. The committee's <br />recommendations will be brought to the Infra- <br />structure Task Force meeting on Thursday, <br />January 25. <br /> <br />Finally, the committee thanked former League <br />lobbyist Yvonne Hunter for her work during the <br />past 17 years. Hunter is leaving the lobbying <br />world to work with the Institute for Local Govern- <br />ment as the Program Director for Cities for <br />Healthy Kids. <br /> <br />Revenue & Taxation <br /> <br />The Revenue & Taxation Policy Committee <br />met on Thursday, January 11, at the Sacramento <br />Convention Center. Among the highlights from the <br />meeting were presentations by League General <br />Counsel Patrick Whitnell, Principal Fiscal and <br />Policy Analyst Marianne O'Malley from the Legisla- <br />tive Analysts Office (LAO), Assemblymember <br />Roger Niello, and newly-elected State Controller <br />John Chiang. <br /> <br />Continued on Page 5 <br /> <br />PAGE 4 .
