LEAVES <br /> 9.1 Sick Leave <br /> 9.1.1 Regutar full-time and probationary emptoyees shall accrue sick leave <br /> at the rate of ten {10} hours per month, provided they have warked <br /> one hundred sixty (1b0) hours that month, to a maximum of one- <br /> thousand two-hundred (1200) hours. Sick leave usage shall not be <br /> considered as a privilege which an employee may use at his or her <br /> uiscr�t���, but shall be allowed onty in case af necessity of actual <br /> s;cknes� cr c��sability. Ch�r�e f�r sick le�.�e t�sed shal! be en t!-:A basis <br /> of one (1) hour for each hour used; provided however, that sick teave <br /> shatt be charged for onty those hours when the empioyee was absent <br /> from work. Sick t�ave may r��� b� used t�efc�re it is e�rnec�. <br /> 9.1.2 Effective July 1, 2005, emptoyees shall be etigibte for sick leave <br /> benefits from the commencement of their emptoyment with the City, <br /> to a maximum of the hours accrued, for absence due to non- <br /> occupational disability onty during the time such disabitity, illness, or <br /> other sickness or injury continues. Sick teave during the first six (b} <br /> months of emptayment may only be used with the approval of the <br /> Potice Chief or his or her designee. Sick teave shalt not be credited to <br /> any employee whose employment is terminated prior to six (6) months <br /> of emptoyment. <br /> At the City's request, an employee who iias been absent more than <br /> three (3) days must fite with the City a statement by a person licensed <br /> t� pru��ic� m�dicine or dentistry that the employee was �nder sai� <br /> doctor's care while absent. When an emplayee returns to work after <br /> any absence chargeabte to srck teave or as a resutt of an industrial <br /> absence or itlness, the City may require a statement from a physician <br /> that the emptoyee is in fit physicai condition to perform ail the duties <br /> c�f his or r�er position. in �ddiiion, the employee may be required to <br /> undergo a medical examination at the City's expense tfl be performed <br /> by a doctor desi�nated by the City, before the employee is permitted <br /> to return to work. <br /> An employee may use up to five (5) days of accrued sick teave in any <br /> catendar year for illness in the immediate famiEy. For the purpase af <br /> this Section, immediate family means spouse, chitd or parent. <br /> Ex�ept in cases of extreme emergency or exceptional unforeseen <br /> circumstances, in order to receive compensation for absences charged <br /> to sick teave, the employee shall notify his/her immediate supervisor <br /> no [ess than one-hatf hour plus travet time prior to the scheduled time <br /> 17 <br />
