The cost shared project has continued to be well received. Approximately 20% of the offers to property owners are accopted. Staff believes that more property owners do not participate because most of the offers are provided when a property owner reports a defective sidewalk. The majority of property owners choose the City's no-cost temporary repairs to correct the concern over the condition of the sidewalk. The property owners that do participate typically desire a concrete repair and are not willing to wait for the annual program to reach their neighborhood. The cost shared project provides staff the ability to respond to requests for sidewalk repairs and new wheel chair ramps outside of the boundaries of the tree preservation and sidewalk repair program block area. Alternatives Alternatives to approval of the change orders include: · Do not approve the change order for work not yet complete and do not perform the work. Stop offering estimates and return co-payments from previous estimates that may be received · Reduce the amount of the change order - reduce the amount of cost shared locations the City will complete Fiscal Impact Funds have been approved and appropriated in the FY 2002:2003 Capital Improvement Program, Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair and Wheel Chair Ramp funding in the amount of $1,000,000.
