<br />FLEX YOUR POWER'S 5TH ANNUAL AWARDS NOW ACCEPTING ENTRIES <br /> <br />10A <br />Page 6 <br /> <br />Has your city has been working hard to save <br />energy by educating the public, managing energy <br />use in municipal facilities or promoting innovative <br />energy-saving technologies? If so, cities are <br />encouraged to apply for the 5th Annual Flex Your <br />Power Awards. <br /> <br />Flex Your Power singles out California's star <br />performers in efficiency and conservation. The <br />judging process relies on the expertise of an <br />impartial panel of energy- and water-use efficiency <br />experts. Flex Your Power is proud to count <br />California's top organizational directors, commis- <br />sion chairs, legislators, and researchers among its <br />judges. <br /> <br />Awards will be considered for the following four <br />categories: <br /> <br />1. Energy Efficiency - Efforts to reduce total <br />energy (electricity and/or natural gas) consumption <br />through the installation of energy-efficient equip- <br />ment, lighting and appliances or through the <br />completion of energy-efficient building retrofits or <br />new construction projects <br /> <br />2. Education and Leadership - Educational <br />efforts or outstanding leadership activities that <br />have had a significant impact in the areas of <br />energy efficiency or energy conservation/demand <br />response. <br /> <br />3. Innovative Products and/or Services - <br />Innovative products or services designed to help <br />businesses or residents save energy. This in- <br />cludes manufacturing, and retailer promotions, as <br />well as vendor, contractor and consultant pro- <br />grams <br /> <br />4. Demand Response/Conservation - <br />Efforts to reduce electricity use during certain <br />times of the day - at "peak" - by shedding or <br />shifting demand <br /> <br />For more information and to enter, visit http:// <br />fypower.org/feature/awards. Entrants must submit <br />a completed application and a 750 word narrative <br />that summarizes each project or activity the city <br /> <br />has been involved with to save energy. Applica- <br />tions must be delivered or submitted online by <br />March 15, <br /> <br />Winners and those receiving honorable <br />mention will receive congratulatory advertising in <br />relevant trade association Web sites and large <br />online publications, in addition to receiving their <br />awards on stage at a prestigious awards cer- <br />emony. <br /> <br />. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . <br /> <br />NLC 2007 AWARDS FOR MUNICIPAL <br />EXCELLENCE: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS <br /> <br />Does your city have an outstanding program <br />that improved the quality of life in a community? If <br />so, consider submitting an entry into the National <br />League of Cities' 2007 Awards for Municipal <br />Excellence, <br /> <br />The Awards for Municipal Excellence are given <br />through a partnership between the National <br />League of Cities (NLC) and CH2M HILL. The <br />Awards honor a range of population sizes with two <br />awards in each population category. <br /> <br />In the past, Winning entries have had: <br /> <br />. Successful public-private partnerships <br />. Productive citizen and community <br />collaborations <br />. Effective management of municipal <br />resources <br />. Innovative government policies <br />. Tangible project results <br />.
