8A
Page 11

Future Water Supply Reliability
Figure 1 shows the historic and projected water use for Redwood City between 1975 and
2030, The projections show the incremental impacts from the City's water conservation and
recycled water programs. Over time, the reduction in potable water use from these three
programs progressively adds up and equals 3,374 af/yr, or 25% of water demands in 2030.
Figure 1 also shows the expected SFPUC water supplies associated with 10% and 20%
system-wide cutbacks that could be implemented by SFPUC, as previously described, in
event of drought or emergencies. Table 4 shows this information in tabular form.

As shown, holding all factors constant, Redwood City would be only modestly impacted by
the 10% SFPUC cutback scenario. Under the 20% cutback scenario, Redwood City would
be significantly affected, needing to reduce water use by between 19.5 and 27,7%. Thus,
conservation savings and recycled water use will greatly lessen but not entirely avoid the
impacts of future droughts.

Figure 1: Future Water Supply Reliability
(Source: Redwood City 2005 UWMP)

-------1--.----.-----.....-..-.--..
I
...HiSlori~.1 ProieCle.~

",OM 1-

"000 j

l--------------------
12,000 i
I
I
I

----

..
"
>-
...
"
a.
-a; 10,000'
..
1l;
l':!
o
..:

-Historic

I
1

..,,_,~___...,~'",.....__~._J
-I
1

I

I
I

-Base Water Use Projection

6,000

_Water Use With Passive
I .
