Recommendation
(1) By Motion,
a. Approve the appointment of a pilot Urban Forestry Board comprised of five
appointed members meeting the stated criteria. The appointment will be for
a fixed period of eighteen (18) months to meet a stated list of objectives and
follow stated operating guidelines.
b. Adopt the Master Tree List per Section 29.66 of the Redwood City Municipal
Code.
c. Designate the Public Works Services Department as the lead City
department accountable for the City's Urban Forestry Program.
d. Establish a List of "Work Verified Tree Companies" that voluntarily submit to
the City the established criteria. Companies that meet the criteria will be
included on this list that will be provided for the public.

(2) Introduce an ordinance deleting in its entirety Section 29.69 Planting of Certain
Trees Prohibited from the Redwood City Municipal Code.

Background
On December 4,2006, The Tree Policy Task Force presented 24 recommendations to the
City Council. At that meeting, Council commended the task force for their work, adopted
their recommended vision statement, and directed staff to review the other
recommendations to identify the next steps which included short term and long term
recommended actions.

Staff has identified 6 short term action items that are addressed in this report. The
remaining 17 items are recommendations that may take more time, may have budget
implications, and may be better addressed following the task force and staff
recommendation for the appointment of the pilot Urban Forestry Board.

Staff recommends the following six recommendations be implemented in the short term.
Some require Council action and the specific action is being recommended. The action
item numbers shown correspond to the original task force list of 24 items (Attachment 7).

5. Officially designate the Public Works Services Department accountable for the Urban
Forestry Program.
