ATTl4CAMENT 10 9A
Page 87
Jiil Ekas
Planning Qirector
Redwood Ci#y, California
Dear Ms. Ekas,
My name is Robert Patane and my wife Christine and I iive at 207 Newcastle Court in Redwood
City. Unfortunately, 1 work evenings and I will not be abie to aftend the meeting scheduled for
March 7, 2007 regarding the proposal for the apariment complex on Woodside and Hogan. I have
however, spoken to many people in aur community(including residents of bah the Hampton Oaks
and the Kentfield Commans}. 1 am the next door neighbor of Fran and Bryant Free and I know the
Fran has worked endlessly to secure the well being, best interest and safety of these neighboring
communi#ies. ! have had many conversations wifh Fran regarding this project and I must say that
I am unequivocally staunch supporter of both Fran's efforts as well as her position on this matter.
As a resident of this community for nearly eleven years both my wife and I share the same
position regarding this matter. We feel that it has not been thought out in terms o#the well being
and general safety of these communities. As the proposal stands, it appears that the develper is
trying ta expedite this project at the expense to the well being of these communities. All
aiternatives have not been explored and at this juncture, and they need be. Aside from the
obvious concerns of height and density, this praject, as it stands brings with it grave concerns
regarding traffic and safety issues for both the Hampton Oaks and Kentfield communities.
The issue of ingress and egress is of paramount concern.AIlowing additionaf traffic to flow into
these quiet, well kept, family oriented communities would not only be a major mistake, but it
wauld change fhe integrity of these communities, not to mention the safety and well being as well.
I strongly urge the planning committee to rethink this project, so that the interests and well being
of these communities are taken into considera#ion.
Very truly yours, _
Robert Patane
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Sir/Madam:
I am a Iongtime resident of the area near the proposed condominiums at 885 Woodside Road,
and I would Eike to submit fhe following comments for your consideration. My wife and E moved
into a home in the Fiorgan Ranch Eichler development along Atherwood Avenue in 1976, and
lived there for 29 years until moving into a cond4minium in Park Atherton Lake, 2 years ago.
In the past few weeks we have received several unsigned notices calling the neighborhood to
actin to block this proposed development. We find #hese attempts to be alarmist and self-
serving, and after some investigation we can find no justification to btock this development. I
have read your staff report and fooked at the shade and traffic studies. While shadowing is a
legitimate concern for a few houses in Ffampton Oaks, the main complaint of the neighborhood
activists appears to be traffic. As longtime residents who daily walk our dog past#he proposed
site, I am confident that these new condominiums will not add significantly to existing traffic.
A quick survey of the neigfbarhood indicates that there are approximately 514 residences in fhe
combined areas of Kentfield Commons (151}, Hampton Oaks {123}, The Enclave (60), Park
Atherton Lake(100), the Horgan Ranch Eichlers (64}, and Atherwood Court(12). A(! of these
neighborhoods utilize Kentfiefd or Horgan Avenue for fheir primary ingress and egress. Adding
43 units represents an increase of a IitEle aver 8%, so it is hard to imagine how that will lead to the
"drastic change"and"huge backups"cited in the flyers being distributed in the area.
