7A
Page 62

SIGN ORDINANCE MEETING NOTES

January 9, 2007
6:30-8:30pm
City Council Chambers

Note: these are not minutes and only contain the questions that were documented in the
flip chart.

Q: Castelli: When will the time extension of signs begin?
A: When the Ordinance is adopted.

Q; Garcia: What if a building has more than one tenant?
A:. The property owner is responsible to come in for a sign program to portion out, as
applicable, the allowable sign area based on lineal length offrontage of the property (1.5
times the lineal frontage). All business (unless building identification sign scenario) get
a minimum of 50 square feet for signage.

Q: Raymundo: How does amortization relate to temporary signs?
A; Temp signs will be allowed for 90 days per calendar year without design review (if
temporary sign stays up longer than 90 days, they are treated as permanent signs or
become illega!.)

Q: Raymundo: Is there any thing to prevent applicant to submit/keep a non conforming
sign?
A: Staff does their best to deter such applications at the early stages; some applicants just
want it their way.

Q: Andy Raymundo; What about current signs that are in the process of review that do
not meet the new ordinance?
A: Applicants with proposals that do not conform to the ordinance means that they are
asking for an exception or if no findings can be made would be denied.

Q: (Comment) The city should go after tenants with illegal signs not the property
owners?
A: Property owner is responsible for tenants, but property owner and tenants will be notified.
Additionally, sign contractors know what a viable sign is per the site.

Q: Malony: Non-conforming pole sign needs refacing, is that ok?
A: Refacing a sing is OK, ifreplacing with like, but would require design review if a total
change to aesthetic of sign face is involved.

Q: Malony: What about previous for conforming signs?
A: same answer.
