CITY OF REDWOOD CITY BUILDING & INSPECTION
Community Development Services
June 12, 1997

MEMORANDUM

TO:. CITY COUNCIL

FROM: Juan A. Garcia, Senior Building Inspector
SUBJECT: BUILDING MOVING PERMIT, 20 AVONDALE AVENUE TO 28 CLAREMONT AVENUE

BACKGROUND
On May 22, 1997 Senior Building Inspector Juan Garcia met with the building owner, Mr.
Williamson, at 20 Avondale to inspect the structural condition of the building proposed to be
moved.
Senior Building Inspector Garcia found that the building appears to be structurally sound,
however, the following deficiencies were noted:

1. The roofing material is dilapidated and needs to be replaced.

2. The facia boards and window trim need replacing as does the window in the front door
and the window at the porch in the rear.

3. The chimney is cracked at the roof line but Mr. Williamson is proposing to remove the
fireplace.

4. The paint on the window trim, sill and sash is deteriorated and needs to be scraped
clean and repainted and repaired as needed.

5. There is a gravity-type heating unit in the basement. The heater ducting appears to be
of transite material and may contain asbestos. Mr. Williamson has been apprised of this
possibility by Senior Building Inspector Garcia and asked to have the ductJng material
tested.

RECOMMENDATION
APPROVAL WITH CONDITIONS - That the City Council approve the Building Moving Permit
with the following conditions:

REDWOOD CITY BUILDING & INSPECTION, 1020 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063
Old Police Building · Telephone: 415/780-7350 · FAX: 415/780-7348
