SHERIFF <br />OF SAN MATEO COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS <br />RETIREMENT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, following some 29 years of law enforcement service <br /> <br />in the State of California, John R. McDonald, Jr. Sheriff of <br /> <br />San Mateo County, has announced his retirement from public <br /> <br />service; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, John served as Police Chief of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />City from 1969 until 1973, when he accepted appointment as <br /> <br />Sheriff of San Mateo County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, having received the full confidence of the <br /> <br />electorate, John has been returned to office until his decision <br /> <br />to retire; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, John's professional background, as a graduate in <br /> <br />Police Science and Administration from California State <br /> <br />University, Los Angeles, as a graduate of the Federal Bureau of <br /> <br />Investigation National Academy, and as a participant in post- <br /> <br />graduate work at the University of Southern California, testifies <br /> <br />to his devotion to the highest standards of professional <br /> <br />competence; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, John has actively supported, through his membership <br /> <br />in, and as an officer o~ numerous professional organizations <br /> <br />including the California Peace Officers Association, Peace <br /> <br />9~64 <br />
