6.3A <br /> Page 3 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CfTY OF REDWOO� CITY <br /> REQUESTING AND SUPPORTING A FUTURE REALIGNMENT OF THE <br /> BAY TRAIL ON INNER BAIR ISLAND IN REDWOOD C1TY <br /> WHEREAS, the Association of Bay Area Governments {ABAG) in cooperation with <br /> focal, regional, state, and federal agencies, and enviranmentai and recreationai arganizations <br /> throughout the nine Bay Area counties, has developed and is implementing the San <br /> Francisco Bay Traif Project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Bay Trail wiA link recreational and open space areas throughout the <br /> San Francisco Bay region with appraximately 500 miies of hiking and bicycling facifities, of <br /> which 28$ miies have already been completed; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Bay Trail Praject's intent is to secure and provide public access to the <br /> bay front, that is compatible with its natu�al environments, and its wiidlife habita#s, while <br /> offering greatly enhanced opportunities far the pubfic to enjoy easily accessibfe recreation <br /> including hiking, jogging, bicycling, and skating, as well as providing commute alternatives; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, a current segment of the Bay Trail in Redwood City is designated on a <br /> partion of the existing loop trail on Inner Bair Isiand, parallel to Sta#e Raute 101; and <br /> WHEREAS, the United Stafes �'ish and Wildfife Services (USFWS), with the <br /> involvement, cooperation, and support of Redwood City, is in the midst of a major wetlands <br /> restoration project which wilE alter the trail aiignment and access points to Innsr Bair Island; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the USFWS' plans include closure of the existing Whipple Avenue access <br /> to Inner Bair fsland, finro levee breaches to restore tidal flow ta the island, eiimination of the <br /> ATTY/RESOlRES0.1704 <br /> 050307 <br /> 1 <br />
