6.3A <br /> Page 4 <br /> continuaus loop trail around the island thus converting it into #wo, non-continuous trail <br /> segments leading to observation piatforms, and construction of a pedestrian bridge from Bair <br /> Island Road in praximity to an existing pubEic parking lot; and <br /> WHEREAS, in order ta best accammadate and coincide with the USFWS' planned <br /> trail alignrnent and access point changes on Inner Bair Is(and, Redwood City desires that the <br /> Bay Trail Proyect plan for a complementary realignment, to include Bay Trail designation of <br /> the two pfanned non-cantinuous traif "spurs," maintaining the existing Bay Trail spine <br /> alignment afong the western edge of Inner Bair Island, designating the eastern edge of Inner <br /> Bair Island including the bridge crossing to Bair Island Raad as Bay Trail spine, and <br /> eliminating Bay Trai! designation on the levee adjacent to Inner Bair Island as a result of the <br /> proposed trail access closure at Whipple Avenue; and <br /> WHEREAS, such a realignment and designation of Bay Trail on lnner Bair Island wiil <br /> provide the estimated 250,000 annuai visitors to Bair Island, from the community of Redwood <br /> City and the entire region, with enhanced recreational opportunities as well as more direct <br /> and environrnentally-sound access, and wilf be in concert with the USFWS' Bair Island <br /> restoration plans. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RES4LVED BY THE CITY CC1UNClL OF THE C1TY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br /> That the Council requests the Bay Trail Project incorporate this realignment of <br /> the Bay Trail on Inner Bair {sland into the Bay Trail Plan. <br /> * � * <br /> ATTY/RE SO/F2ES 0.1704 <br /> 0503d7 <br /> 2 <br />
