~PC~~T <br />F Ta the Honorab4e`~-Ilays~r and i~~ty ~Qunci~' <br />From #hs ~#~ Manage <br />June 4, 2007 <br />SUBJECT <br />Peninsula Celebration Association's 69`h Annual Fourth of July Celebration. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Authorize execution of a letter permit for the Fourth of July Celebration sponsored by <br />the Peninsula Celebration Association, the Redwood City Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services Department, and Let's Talk Events. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA), in partnership with the Redwood City <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and Let's Talk Events, has <br />requested permission to conduct the annual Fourth of July Celebration. The annual <br />"Fun Run" will be conducted along the parade route from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM. The <br />traditional parade will commence at 10:00 AM and last until approximately 12:30 PM. <br />The arts & crafts fair and festiva! will be held in the downtown core area of Redwood <br />City from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Let's Talk Events will sponsor a classic car show from <br />8:00 AM until approximately 4:30 PM. A fireworks display will be held in the turning <br />basin of Redwood Creek in the Port of Redwood City from 9:30 PM until approximately <br />10:00 PM. <br />On July 4~', the parade line-up area will be reserved from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while the <br />parade route will be reserved from 8:30 AM until 2:00 PM. The arts and crafts fair and <br />festival area wilt be reserved at 6:00 PM on Tuesday July 3`~ through 8:00 PM on <br />Wednesday July 4"'. The car show area will be reserved at 5:00 AM through 5:00 PM. <br />Seaport Blvd. will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 7:00 PM or until <br />designated parking spaces in the part area are filled, until 10:00 PM when vehicular <br />traffic will begin to leave the fireworks demonstration. Additional road closures wilt be <br />conducted in coordination with the Port of Redwood City, the Redwood City Police <br />Department, port area property owners, the PCA, and the security staff with wham they <br />have contracted. <br />The parade will be conducted in the areas detailed on the attached map provided by the <br />PCA in their letter dated May 3, 2007. Parade staging areas require road closures <br />throughout the Centennial Neighborhood. The festival will be conducted on Broadway <br />from Jefferson to Arguello, Winslow from Marshall to a portion of the roadway West of <br />Broadway, Hamilton between Marshall and Middlefield, and Middlefield from Marshall to <br />Winslow. The Let's Talk Events car show will be conducted an Broadway between <br />Jefferson and Main Street. Minor alterations to the parade route and festival areas may <br />be required to facilitate these events. Should alterations be required, any change to the <br />parade route and festival area locations will be determined under the supervision and <br />approval of the Police Chief or his designee. <br />6.1 C <br />Page 1 <br />
