Climate Protection Activities and Initiatives <br />Deputy City Manager Gonzalez presented the staff report and asked the Mayor to <br />sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. <br />Council generally expressed their support and appreciation and asked for more <br />information, options, and reports back on what more can be done. <br />Public Comment: <br />William Buchholz stated that he is representing the Sierra Club and referred to an <br />earlier letter he sent directly to Council. He commended Council for <br />acknowledging the global warming problem and joining over 400 other cities in <br />signing the agreement. He referred to parts of the agreement and noted that it is <br />not binding and he thought it could be a joint community effort for volunteers to <br />help set reduction targets and an action plan. <br />Rob Dickinson stated that he is representing San Mateo County Democracy for <br />America and he delivered a letter to notify the Mayor that his organization voted to <br />become part of Cool Cities and stated that there is a need for immediate and <br />aggressive action at all levels and a need to look for other solutions. <br />Rick Nordensten stated that he is representing the Sierra Club, is a PACT <br />graduate, and is a Redwood City resident. He stated that global warming is the <br />Sierra Club's number one priority.
