(CMI} for#he period of J;aly �, 2007, through June 30, 2008. <br /> Recommendation <br /> Authorize staff ta renew an agreement with Claims Managernent lr.c. ;GMI; to continue tn act as <br /> third-party administrator for the City`s self-insured worker's campensation prtx,�ram for the period <br /> of Juiy 1, 2007, thraugh June 30, 2d08. <br /> Background <br /> The City of Redwood City is a self-insured emptoyer under the Workers' Compensation laws ofi <br /> the State of Califarnia. ln order tv fulfill flur obligations as a self-insured empiover, the City <br /> retains the services of a third-party administrator {TPA) to ensure the City is in compliance with <br /> the various laws and procedures that govern the Worker's Compensation Program. <br /> Over the past several years CMI has been the claims administrator far the City's workers' <br /> compensation program. Staff has worked coktaborativeiy with CMI to ensure that an aggressi�e <br /> case management approach is being practiced. This has prvven to be effective as the claims <br /> examiner has been able to close oid cases and manage new and existing cases mare <br /> effectively. The Human Resources Depar#ment, management and amployees have expressed <br /> their satisfaction with CMI's performance. Therefore, staff is requesting that Council authorize <br /> renewing CMI's agreement for third-pai-ty adtninistrative services far worlcers' compensation <br /> effective July 1, 2007, through Jun�30, 2008. <br /> Alternative <br /> Council could direc#the Human Resources Department to initiate an RFP process for TPA <br /> services. <br /> Fiscai impact <br /> The annuai cost for the base contract for TPA services provided by CMI is $135,000; these <br /> funds have been budgefed in FY 2007-08 budget. <br /> � . �� <br /> 1 �- � <br /> Bob Bell �'"'" Ed Everett <br /> Human Resources Director City Manager <br /> Attachment <br /> Contract for TPA services between the City and CMI <br />
