CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC (Continued) <br /> <br />1. Minimum of 30 semester college units. Must include successful completion of a Firefighter <br /> I equivalent training program and current EMT Certification; OR <br /> <br />2. Paramedic Certification and completion of a certified Firefighter I equivalent training <br /> program; OR <br /> <br />3. One year (a cumulative total of 12 months) fire fighting experience as a paid career or <br /> seasonal firefighter and current EMT Certification; OR <br /> <br />4. Three years (a cumulative total of 36 months) volunteer fire fighting experience and current <br /> EMT Certification. <br /> <br /> License <br /> <br /> Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver's license. <br /> <br /> Special Requirements: <br /> Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: <br /> <br /> Eighteen years of age; eyesight: 20-30 corrected with contact lenses or spectacles, <br /> Successful long term soft contact lens wearers (i.e., six months without a problem) <br /> are not subject to the uncorrected criteria or 20-100 uncorrected; fi-eedom from color <br /> blindness; normal hearing. <br /> <br /> Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, lift <br /> and carry 100 lbs.; pull and/or drag 175 lbs.; work in the following environments: cold, <br /> extreme heat, extreme noise, outdoors, confining work spaces, elevated areas; work <br /> with electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste, mechanical hazards, and <br /> explosive materials; availability for shift work on-call and stand-by call. <br /> <br /> Paramedic <br /> <br /> In addition to the qualifications for Fire Fighter: <br /> Knowledge of: <br /> <br /> Advanced Life Support pre-hospital emergency medical care techniques, principles, <br /> and practices. <br /> <br /> Basic human anatomy and physiology. <br /> <br /> 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
