CITY OF REDWOOD-CITY <br />FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC (Continued) <br /> <br /> Medical terminology, techniques and processes used in the description and assessment <br /> of patient status. <br /> <br /> Categories, applications, contraindications and appropriate dosage levels of paramedic <br /> medications. <br /> <br /> Procedures and equipment used in monitoring vital signs. <br /> <br /> Symptoms of impaired cardiac and respiratory functioning, altered states of <br /> consciousness, various types of toxicity, poisoning, shock and common diseases. <br /> <br /> Applicable laws, codes, and ordinances relating to emergency medical care. <br /> <br /> Basic arithmetic. <br /> <br /> Ability to: <br /> <br /> Observe/evaluate patient status and conditions at the scene. <br /> <br /> Determine appropriate basic/advanced life support procedures and make paramedical <br /> decisions rapidly under stressful conditions. <br /> <br /> Perform basic/advanced life support procedures including cardiac and <br /> pulmonmy resuscitation, cardiac monitoring, and defibrillation, trauma <br /> response and administration of medications. <br /> <br /> Communicate technical information effectively with those encountered in the course of <br /> work. <br /> <br /> Learn and apply San Mateo County radio format to transmit medical information. <br /> Skill to: <br /> <br /> Use and manipulate tools, medical equipment, instnnnents and apparatus. <br /> <br /> Experience and Education Guidelines: <br /> <br /> Paramedic Certification and completion ora certified Fire Fighter I equivalent <br /> training program is required (Option II under the Fire Fighter requirements). <br /> <br /> Education: <br /> <br /> Completion of courses ~om an approved California State Paramedic Training <br /> Program or equivalent cetfitication recognized by San Mateo County. <br /> <br /> 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
