Mana er <br /> <br />July 23, 2007 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Award of Contract - Sandpiper/Marlin Park Synthetic Turf Field Installation Project <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve, by motion, the contract documents and award the contract for the <br />Sandpiper/Marlin Park Synthetic Turf Field Installation Project to the lowest responsible <br />bidder, Granite Rock Company DBA Pavex Construction Division of San Jose, <br />California, for their low bid of $1,641,785, plus an additional $50,000 for Bid Alternate <br />No, 1, and total contract value of $1 ,691,785, <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Natural turf will be converted to synthetic turf surfaces at two Redwood Shores sport <br />fields. The combined coverage is approximately 4 acres. Only portions of Sandpiper <br />and Marlin parks that are regularly used for sports will be converted to synthetic turf. <br />Landscaped and ornamental lawn areas will remain as natural turf. Project <br />improvements include fencing, pathways, and landscaping, <br /> <br />This project implements water conservation measures recommended by the Community <br />Task Force on Recycled Water in their report to Council dated March 3, 2004. Artificial <br />turf reduces demand on the potable water supply. <br /> <br />The artificial turf fields for Sandpiper and Marlin parks were designed by Beals Alliance, <br />Sport Division. Beals Alliance has provided design and consulting services to the City <br />on similar projects completed within the past five years at Red Morton, Hoover, and Fair <br />Oaks. Beals Alliance is regarded as a highly qualified firm with extensive experience on <br />similar projects. <br /> <br />Three (3) bids were received at the bid opening on July 11, 2007.
